Music News and Concerts

The Cathedral eagerly looks forward to the delivery, shortly after Easter 2010, of two new organs being built by the highly distinguished Noack Organ Company of Georgetown, Massachusetts.  Installation and voicing will take place over a period of several months, with the organ becoming fully operational in September or October of 2010.  Details concerning the project are outlined in the Proposed New Organs brochure.

The modification of the choir loft to accommodate the new main organ, choir, and instrumentalists has recently been completed.  Many have already commented that the modification is very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.  It is not only well integrated into the existing structure; it actually significantly enhances the attractiveness of that end of the nave.

We continue to seek donations to fund this important and worthy project.  Information concerning the cost and how to make a donation are included in the brochure.

A series of Dedicatory Organ Recitals is planned for the 2010-11 season to mark the installation of the Noack organs.  The main organ will be an instrument of international significance and the recital list, which includes internationally renowned organists, reflects that fact.  Ticket information will be announced as that information becomes available.

The Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman will host the Conference of Roman Catholic Cathedral Musicians (United States and Canada) the week of January 3-7, 2011.

Matthew Curtis, tenor section leader in the Cathedral Gallery Singers from 2000 through June of 2009, became a member of the celebrated male vocal ensemble Chanticleer during the summer of 2009.  Matt is now based in San Francisco and travels extensively with the group, maintaining a rigorous schedule.  We at the Cathedral are proud to have contributed to the artistic formation of this fine musician.
